A Collaboration

What do you get when you mix…

a creative mastermind with a detail oriented math geek? Well, there are a lot of things you could get! The Hypnotic Quilt Pattern with bonus pincushion is what came out of the prize machine this time!! The Hypnotic Quilt is a tricky looking quilt pattern with a simple step-by-step construction method. Natalie had an epiphany am 2am that became the design for this mesmerizingly hypnotic quilt. She is the creative mastermind, you know what that makes me!

Black and white quilts seem to be catching eyes lately and you can see why. The striking simplicity is easy to love and easy to achieve with both solids and low volumes with dark prints that read solid. And you can always swap out high contrast colors and get a similar effect.

Where do I come in? Well, Natalie is known for her easy going, anyone can do it pattern writing. And she has done it again with this stunner! You won’t believe the simplicity of construction that she worked out. I came in to tidy up the edges with math and calculations and a wee bit of quilty-engineering. While we were discussing the different quilt sizes, I joked that I was going to miniaturize it and make it into a pincushion. She loved the idea and agreed to add the Baby Tansy Pincushion into the pattern as a collaboration. So, I did!

So you get a striking quilt pattern in three sizes with links to video walk-throughs of block construction on YouTube. You won’t need them, the instructions come with simple directions, diagrams and photos! A coloring page, and a bonus pin cushion project with the mini quilt on top!

facemask stack

Tansy Designs

A facemask stack, and so much more…

In between quilt making, and pattern drafting…

I have been turning out small batches of custom face masks. I have made masks for weddings, for church donations, for online school, for family members, friends, and for sale. While I wish we didn’t need them, I have enjoyed designing a well-fitted pattern. I realize that there are disposable and less expensive options out there, but I don’t want to keep buying throw-away masks. And I want a mask that fits well and is comfortable enough to get me through the necessary grocery trip without a bunch of slipping and pulling. Also, I like fancy things. And if I can have a custom facemask that either pops (if I want it to) or doesn’t distract (if that’s what I want) then I want it!! If you want it too, take a look in my mask shop. Some pre-made options are listed. You can always reach out and I’ll make you a custom mask from my current stock of fabrics, or I can find something to meet your idea of perfect! (For a slight up-charge).

Ready-made or custom masks from in-stock fabrics are $25.00. If I need to shop for the perfect fabric for you, the base price is $25.00 plus the price of fabric (usually $5-$10). University of Wisconsin fabrics and other in-stock, licensed prints are $30.00 each, as the fabrics are much more expensive with licensing.

My mask pattern has been custom drafted, by me for an adjustable fit. It fits many different sized and shaped adult faces. I have drafted additional sizes as well. Please reach out via email if you want to discuss additional sizes. My original size fits most adults. I also have two childrens’s sizes and two larger adult sizes, including one size that accommodates the beardiest of Covid beards!

BUT… Tansy Designs is not just face masks. Far from it!

Tansy Designs is the part of my life where I want to share my love of making things with people outside of my home! I have always loved to design and create things. From being a little girl and loving arts and crafts, playdough and coloring… to designing school banners and working at a fabric and craft store in high school… to painting rooms and making enormous linen slip covers to recover an overstuffed chair, couch and ottoman as a new wife… to making stage curtains and Halloween costumes as a new mother… to knitting, sewing and eventually quilting, paper-piecing and bag making as I have gained more daytime hours to devote to imagination… sewing and creating have always been a part of my life.
